Freo Society AGM
FREMANTLE Society president Henty Farrar won re-election by 10 votes Tuesday.
Presidential candidate and former deputy mayor John Dowson received 27 votes at the town hall AGM Tuesday, his plea that a promised rejuvenation hadn’t eventuated falling on deaf ears.
“Of course the society has to move forward, but the results are in and they are dismal … membership of the society is now less than half when I was involved (in the society),” Mr Dowson told the AGM.
The Herald’s mole at the meeting said numbers were significantly lower than last year, appearing to confirm reports the society’s membership has taken a dive.
She was scathing of those running the meeting, describing it as a schmozzle and the worst she’d ever attended.
Profiles of the two candidates hadn’t been sent out before the meeting, and when Anna George asked to hear the pair speak, the request was at first refused.
Ms George didn’t take kindly to former president Roel Loopers’ attempt to intervene so Bob Reece—who’d chaired the meeting—agreed the pair could speak.
Mr Farrar was reportedly allowed to run over his allocated time but Mr Dowson had been reined in.
