Dowding’s no whinger

x08fre_008pUPDATE: “It’s not me,” says former WA premier Peter Dowding, denying he’s one of the complainers who led to the demise of live music at Dave’s Cans on the rooftop of the old Myer building. As we reported, noise complaints led to the plug being pulled from the bar’s popular outdoor stage and it’s only allowed to spin a few quiet DJ tunes or strum a harp as a result (“Dave’s canned—too loud”, Herald, February 8, 2014). The Chook thought it had a red-hot tip on Mr Dowding calling the council to complain, but his wife Benita says they merely heard the music from their place. Mr Dowding had told our reporter prior to publication that he hadn’t complained, but unfortunately the production crew didn’t know and put the reference in, so our apologies to Mr Dowding if that resulted in him getting dark stares from the late-night moshing crew all weekend.

  1. Lots of people filled noise complaints. Maybe the people running it should read and understand the requirements of the license. The same will happen at J-Shed should it go through. It will be shutdown because noise complaints have to be taken seriously and the law is clear. Good luck holding concerts at Bather’s Beach on a regular basis, it will fail, and be shut down.
