LES MISERABLES heroine Cosette was given her nickname due to her diminutive size.
Her real name, Euphrasie, means “mirthful”, which was perhaps a bit of irony by Victor Hugo given his grim novel is anything but.
This Euphrasie Court Fremantle home on the other hand is a light-filled place of soaring proportions.
If, like me, you aren’t familiar with Euphrasie Court it’s an enclave of new homes off Tuckfield Street.
Number 11 is at the end of the cul de sac, a two-storey, four-bedroom/three-bathroom abode fronted by huge, double front doors. From the front step you look down into the port.
The open-plan area is a spacious expanse…
Golden timber floors, sparkling white walls and stainless-steel and glass of the staircase greet the eye as you step into the spacious entry.
In the distance a wall of glass-doors and windows invites you to step out into the garden.
As you wander through to the commodious open-plan living/dining/kitchen, pause to peep into the voluminous storage under the stairs.
Images of rows of bottles of wine popped into my mind, but the shelving could hold a great deal of just about anything.
The open-plan area is a spacious expanse with plenty of floor space separating the living and dining areas.
The kitchen is compact and well designed, with no compromise on storage with a walk-in pantry and plenty of granite bench tops, making cooking up a storm in the Miele oven a breeze.
Head upstairs and you’ll find three of the bedrooms and a spacious sitting room, where the deck offers views of the river and ocean.
The commodious main bedroom also opens onto the deck. Roll back the doors and lovely sea breezes surely waft in to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep. I was intrigued by a bank of special shoe drawers in the walk-in-robe: It sure beats my system of chucking them under the bed. The ensuite has a shower and a spa bath along with duel vanities, so there’s no pushing and shoving in the morning rush.
The garden of this 380sqm property looks out across East and North Fremantle, and while it may not be huge, there’s room for a game of French cricket with a mini-citrus orchard for the boundary.
Euphrasie is walking distance to Fremantle and close to East Fremantle’s George Street precinct, local schools and parkland.
