After troubles at home and losing his job, boilermaker Brett found himself without a home three weeks ago.

He tried local shelters but couldn’t get in because he’d taken his faithful pooch Ronnie with him, so he’s been roughing it on Freo’s streets.

Despite the tough times, Brett says the response to his small hand-written note has been heart-warming. While the Herald chatted, food for both Brett and Ronnie arrived, a folded cash donation was sent his way and there were other numerous warm gestures.

Brett says others have offered to cover any vet bills he incurs while sleeping rough or offered the use of showers. He asked the Herald to pass on his thanks to the port city’s many generous souls.
