JOE COOPER’S is coming down. Cockburn council has set aside $200,000 to demolish the old building on Macfaull Park in Spearwood. The money will also cover the cost of a memorial plaque at the site.
The recreation centre was built in 1978 and has been continuously occupied ever since. In recent years it has been used by groups hiring space, including the girl guides, karate group and HALO, which is moving to Kwinana.
The Phoenix Theatre group also has sets and costumes stored there.
