First ground breaks on 10,000 homes

IT’S not quite as sexy as turning the sod on the first house so there’s no pollies fluttering about, but the Chook thought it worth noting the ground’s finally been broken down on the Cockburn Coast.

Paving the way for a massive housing development of 10,000 new residents, remediation of the former Robb Jetty abattoir site started this month.

LandCorp CEO Frank Marra tells the Herald the 12-week remediation works are part of a broader forward works program.

“Remediation works are restricted to the removal of old redundant service pipes that serviced the former abattoir building and the removal of asbestos which has been found in isolated locations on site where dumping has occurred in recent times,” Mr Marra says.

“The scope of works also includes the demolition of two disused buildings along Bennett Avenue.”
