POLICE detectives have recovered an $89,000 pearl necklace, stolen from a Fremantle home in a raid that netted thieves $350,000.
The victim had been holidaying on Hamilton Island when the theft occurred. Stolen items include women’s clothing, unique ear-rings and a diamond ring handcrafted by the victim’s late father.
“When it’s cold and your cashmere bath robe and your ugg boots are stolen, every morning you get reminded about it,” she told the Herald.
“To get my necklace back, that compared to nothing was great.”
The incident was reported after the victim’s flatmate’s credit card was used across Perth.
Detective Shane Newton made sure to keep in contact with the victim daily to keep her updated on raids and arrests.
Six people were arrested during inquiries, with one individual charged (and who was found in possession of the necklace).
Detective George Kopsen: “Inquiries are still continuing and we hope to charge other persons in the coming days.”
When the victim was asked how the theft had changed her, she replied, “it has made me aware of everyone walking down the street. My neighbour’s alarm went off the other day and it made me run across the street, because I’m thinking that could be my house.”
