Art for school

FORGET lamingtons and selling chocolate, art is proving a winner when it comes to raising funds at Beehive Montessori, on the North Fremantle/Mosman Park border.

With stunning new buildings completed for the school’s juniors earlier this year it’s time to raise money for the playground and shade to go over it, principal Rhonda Sheenan says.

Mother and textile artist Elly Joel came up with the idea of an art exhibition last year: “It was so fantastic we thought we should make it an annual event,” she says.

Tapping into her own and her artist parents’, network she approached established and emerging artists, who were happy to be part of the exhibition, a formula repeated this year.

With so many galleries closing it’s a win-win for artists and the school, Ms Joel says.

Open to the general public the ARTE RICCA exhibition is on October 24–November 1, opening hours are Saturday and Sunday 11am–4pm, Monday to Friday 8.30–10am and again 2.30–4pm.
