What’s your story?

FREMANTLE photographer John Rice loves weddings — and the stories behind them — and he’s looking for stories of unusual proposals for a book Will You Marry Me, subtitled Down on Bended Knee.

From one at the top of the Eiffel tower to an underwater shot at Rottnest, the stories collected so far are full of high emotion and drama.

Prospective groom Richard lashed out on a very expensive engagement ring for fiancee Helen with plans to present it while snorkeling: “He was freaking out because he had to put the engagement ring in his board shorts and pray it didn’t end up lost at sea.”

All went to plan and Helen didn’t need to says “yes” at the risk of drowning: “Her excited expression was enough to tell the relieved Richard the answer.”

With this being a leap year it’s the woman’s prerogative to propose, traditionally causing unrest in the male population: “Many guys will be shaking in their boots,” Mr Rice says.
