THE Greens have preselected lawyer Kate Davis to stand for Fremantle at the next Federal election.
Ms Davis ran for the seat in 2010, pulling in over 17 per cent of the primary vote, which was an outstanding achievement at a federal level, says Notre Dame politics lecturer Martin Drum.
But he says since then the party’s fortunes have waned, and at the 2013 election they only polled around 11 per cent.

Ms Davis said she was approached to run by local Greens, and acknowledges similarities with retiring Labor member Melissa Parke were mentioned. The Greens will be hoping Labor bleeds voters unhappy with front-runner Chris Brown’s support for mandatory offshore detention.
Ms Davis founded Tenancy WA and specialises in domestic violence at the Women’s Law Centre, and says it will be one area she’ll be hoping to have some influence if she wins, as well as climate change where the party is hoping to have 90 per cent of Australia’s energy provided by renewable resources by 2030.
