WITH a few rare, spare minutes up his sleeve in between assignments, Herald photographer Matthew Dwyer took to the streets and came across Antonietta and Luigi Mauti in Carrington Street, White Gum Valley, picking pomegranates from their front yard tree. Luigi, 76, was standing on the wall with a pair of secateurs, handing plucked fruit to Antonietta, 85.
A friend will use the fruit to make wine. When Matthew asked the couple to pose for a photo, Antonietta turned to her husband of 56 years and planted a big kiss on his cheek: “It is like we are newly-weds again!” she hooted.
