THEVA INDRASENAN says people can save themselves thousands of dollars by ditching the therapist’s couch and taking to the dance floor instead.
“Life is a dance floor and is a reflection of how we are living,” the yoga teacher, body worker and Ecstatic Dance facilitator says.
Indrasenan describes Ecstatic Dance as movement meditation, and says a good boogie can help free the mind, allowing it to embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and awareness.
He says it can help relieve depression and anxiety by forcing people to take deep breaths into their stomach.

The relationship between exercise and stress release is well established, but Inrasenan takes it one step further and reckons many people could drop their antidepressant medications and solve their problems on the dance floor.
“Movement dictates our level of freedom in life, physically, emotionally and spiritually,” he adds.
“Movement for me begins and ends with the spirit.”
He believes dancing helps people overcome hesitancy in expressing themselves, helping them to realise their spiritual purpose.
Dancing Dhevas Ecstatic Dance began in WA in 2010, and it’s taken Indrasenan around the world, boogying his way through Europe and Bali’s famous Yoga Barn. He’ll soon be presenting his ideas at the Geneva Yoga Festival in September.
He says it doesn’t matter if you ‘teengo’, ‘mumbo’, ‘cat daddy’ or ‘shuffle’, movement meditation can benefit anyone. “You drop into your body’s personal movement, and begin to flow with the music,” Indrasenan says.
He has dances on April 22 and June 11 and 25 at 6.45pm at the North Fremantle community hall.
