A PRECOCIOUS art talent in primary school, David Spencer enrolled in Applecross Senior High School’s prestigious specialist art class.
The workload both during school and afterwards wasn’t for the faint-hearted, including Saturday classes: “You can imagine liking that as a teenager,” he smiles.
But the hours paid off and, now 42, Spencer’s distinctive, bold abstract works have long been attracting attention nationwide.
His latest exhibition The Reason for Flowers focuses on landscapes and include works from a trip to the Porongurups and Cape Le Grande — and to Poland.
It’s on at the Gallows Gallery, Glyde Street, Mosman Park until April 24.
