Light and vision bring us colour, clarity and a 3D world. Recently we’ve learnt that some blue light may harm our eye health and vision. At the blue-violet end, new research indicates that this “high energy” light, (high energy because it is closest to UV), may be a factor in age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
AMD is the leading cause of vision loss and blindness in adults over the age of 60. On the other hand, as we get closer to the greens, this light helps our memory, sleep and brain functions.
While blue-violet light is strongest outdoors in the sun, it can also be a source of fatigue when looking at digital devices. Crizal Prevencia bounces away 20% of the harmful blue-violet light while allowing beneficial blue-green light to pass through. At the same time, it increases contrast for digital screen users reducing fatigue and symptoms of eye strain for the wearer.
