In the zone

THE vendors of this Preston Point Road home in Bicton looked at many others before building.

When it came to designing their own they ensured it fitted exactly what they needed.

Which was a “zone” downstairs for the kids, with their own sitting area/games room, barbeque kitchen, and access to the pool.

For the grown-ups there’s the vast open plan on the second level.

With the sweeping river views in mind they insisted on huge swathes of glass, including the balcony balustrade, for an unimpeded vista.

Peel the bifold doors back and you bring the outdoors in, and create masses of room for entertaining.

“We have had so many parties…this is a party house,” the vendor says.

With a very specky barbeque kitchen on the balcony, alfresco dining is sure to be swish, even if it’s just throwing a snag on the hotplate.

The pristine, white kitchen is a vast space with a sweep of white Essa benchtops including a huge breakfast bar. There’s also twin Bosch ovens, a mass of soft-close drawers, cupboards and a double pantry.

Brushbox timber floors add a red/brown richness to the striking white walls.

Movie nights are sure to be a hit with a theatre room off the living/dining area.

The main bedroom is on the upper level, a huge space with a dressing room and huge ensuite with his and hers vanities, a deep bath and separate shower and toilet.

The result of all this attention to detail was so good the four-bedroom home was a finalist in the 2013 HIA architectural awards.

The East Fremantle river foreshore is a short walk away, and there’s plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops nearby too.
