A pint of rhyme

A BUNCH of Fremantle poets are coming out of the asylum and into the pub.

The Out of the Asylum writers group is based at the old lunatics asylum, now the Fremantle Arts Centre  but are heading down to the Orient Hotel in the West End for Perth Poetry Week (August 5-14).

OOTA member Josephine Clarke is using the occasion to launch her first book Between White, which is inspired by her Italian heritage and love of the South West.

The cover features stylized drawing of cumquats for a poem about cumquat marmalade.

“I call myself an accessible poet, and being female it’s domestic,” she says.

Fellow Freo poets Jennifer and Horst Kornberger, Queenslander Matt Hetherington, poetry’s rising prodigy Robbie Coburn (Victoria) and Broome indigenous poet/singer Dora Smith will also be on hand for the night of rhyming.

It’s on Sunday, August 14 from 2–4pm.
