History out the back

IN 17th and 18th century Europe, rich folk would create fake romantic ruins called follies on their grand estates – designed with no function but to please the eye when seen from a distance.

No need for fakery at this King William Street home; the glorious limestone “ruin” in the garden is the real thing, a heritage-listed cottage dating back to the late 1800s.
