SCULPTURE at Bathers will go out in a blaze of glory this weekend, with artist and balga guru Bruce Abbott planning to torch his large installation of 35 jarrah trees.

The exhibition has garnered praise for its quality this year and it’s brought crowds down to the often lonely beach over the last fortnight. Unfortunately, it also attracted a few twits who’ve done some minor damage. Someone also made off with a South Sea pearl from Tane Andrews’ piece The Static of Nature, which had been housed in Kidogo Arthouse. The piece had been sold and has since been withdrawn from the exhibition, but organisers say there’ll be a replacement for the weekend and they’re keen for anyone with any information about the theft to come forward.

Mr Abbott’s fiery finale, which is being pitched as a cleansing smoking ceremony, starts at 6pm on Sunday.
