FREMANTLE council risks getting under Malcom Turnbull’s skin again after a committee this week voted to tell the PM to hurry up and legislate marriage equality.
The motion, put forward at Wednesday’s finance and policy committee by Hilton warder Geoff McDonald, got through unanimously.
Earlier this year the Liberal government criticised the council over axing its Australia Day festivities, saying it was sticking its nose into federal issues.
Committee chair Andrew Sullivan noted the likely backlash from once again delving outside roads and rubbish, but said the council was justified because denying gay people the right to marry was a breach of their human rights.
