Ancestors Fires

Yinjaa-Barni artists from the Pilbara region of WA exhibit their latest work showing the beauty of their homelands. Their stories include the great Marrga or Creation time when the land was formed from the smoke of the Ancestors’ fires. The artists recognise and record the transformations of the Land as it goes from parched landscape to green bushland after torrential summer rainstorms.

JAPINGKA GALLERY Melissa Sandy Wildflowers in Full Bloom Acrylic on Canvas 91 x 91cm $1900

Yinjaa-Barni in local language means ‘coming together’, and this is the sense we get from the 10 artists in this exhibition at Japingka. Leading artists include Clifton Mack, Marlene Harold and Allery Sandy. Gallery2 presents Rivers of the Desert with elegant paintings by Anna Petyarre and handmade textiles from Groote Island. Exhibitions are all available to view online.
