DOG owners may get a partial win in their quest to stretch their pets’ legs along Leighton Beach during winter.

Freo council’s finance and policy committee last week voted to look at pushing the current off-leash area south by about 290 metres between May and October and will put the idea out for consultation.

The council received a petition of 522 signatures from dog owners hoping to get their paws on two kilometres of Leighton, arguing it was almost empty during winter.
