FATHERS DAY FEATURE

Sky High!
Mike Thomas is a grade one instructor and manager of Member Services at the Royal Aero Club of Western Australia (RACWA). Mike has been training pilots for nearly 25 years, teaching in commercial, aerobatics, formation and NVFR operations. His dedication to the flying careers of others has made him a very popular and deserving winner of the ‘2017 Australian Flying Instructor of the Year’ Award. The annual awards are run by the Australian Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society and Australian Flying magazine.
Mike’s contribution to RACWA and aviation in general is quite outstanding. In addition to RACWA, Mike has taught air force cadets as a volunteer for nine years. He also instigated Rusty Pilots seminars to help those that don’t fly as often as they’d like.
To celebrate Mike’s win, RACWA is offering a special Father’s Day Trial Flight with Mike, or one of the other friendly flight instructors at the club. For just $199*, you can take the controls on a Cessna 152 aircraft! Taxi, take-off and pilot the aircraft yourself, plus receive a bonus RACWA gift pack of t-shirt and cap when you land. For bookings and enquiries, please call (08) 9417 0000.
*All Trial Flights are accompanied by a qualified instructor. Must mention this advert when booking. One Bonus Gift Pack per customer and only while stock lasts. At Jandakot airport only. Some weight restrictions may apply.

Brilliant Books
With Father’s Day around the corner, we asked these local Fremantle Press authors what their typical Father’s Day entails. For Jim Richards, Father’s Day means having to eat burnt pancakes with vegemite, David Whish-Wilson enjoys half-spilt tea as part of his breakfast in bed. “I read a book in the afternoon, and then if the dog isn’t barking too loudly I’ll enjoy a siesta. Heaven!” he says. Dave Warner says he’s looking forward to the annual 6-pack of beer his family buys him and re-reading Catch-22, while Alan Carter said he had Mark Brandi’s Wimmera, Kim Scott’s Taboo & Jock Serong’s On the Java Ridge all awaiting his attention.
If your dad loves to read, you can’t go wrong by giving him a selection of fantastic books from Fremantle Press. New releases include Bad to Worse by Robert Edeson, Before It Breaks by Dave Warner, Derby by David Whish-Wilson and Sean Gorman, Gold Rush by Jim Richards and Marlborough Man by Alan Carter, plus much more!
