Award-winning Fremantle restaurant Char Char Bull is back under a new name after undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation.
Now named Char Char Restaurant + Bar, the much-anticipated rejuvenation of this Freo favourite opens with a new focus on enhancing the views and showcasing local producers.
“We’ve gutted and completely redeveloped the restaurant on the inside. We started with a state of the art kitchen, then brought the outdoor spaces in whilst maintaining spectacular views with panoramic full length windows”, said Brenden Jones, Char Char Restaurant + Bar’s owner.
Adjacent to the building a new piazza area was created, providing a pedestrian-friendly space with seating and trees, linking
Fishing Boat Harbour to the seafront at Bathers Beach.
In what is a Fremantle and possibly Perth first, free public E-Bike and USB charging stations have been installed in the Piazza
for those who need a little boost whilst on the go.
“The piazza is an exciting space that will further enliven the Harbour. We will introduce buskers and performers, with the first entertainment starting Sunday 22nd October” Brenden said.
“Fishing Boat Harbour is a special place and whilst we’ve been recognised nationally this year as the Best Public Boat Harbour in Australia, we want to keep evolving to make this an internationally recognised destination”.
In the kitchen and behind the scenes, Char Char Restaurant + Bar has retained the same team that has seen it win many awards. “We are not a new restaurant but an evolution of the 15 year old businesses with the same owners, chef and management team.” Brenden said.
“With the new Char Char, we’re committed to not just sourcing as much West Australian produce as possible, but also training our staff and giving the local producers the opportunity to showcase their product and passions in our restaurant directly to guests.
“‘Friday Bar Fly’ will be a regular free event where we invite in a local producer to spend time face to face with customers in our bar area. There will be product sampling but importantly producers sharing the passion they have for their produce. It may be a wine maker, a farmer, a distiller or even a fisherman!”
“We think there’s no better way of passing on our own passion for locally sourced food than to hear it straight from the people who are feeding you.” Brenden commented.
Char Char is continuing Fremantle’s connection with live music introducing local artists on Saturday afternoons. “Our entire front bar area opens up and we are looking forward to spreading some relaxed Fremantle musical vibes to the harbour. This will continue into Sundays as we introduce and support buskers outside in the Piazza”
As the new name suggests there is also an impressive new bar and lounge area where you can just enjoy a drink any time. “Frazer Devine heads up the bar and having worked at many of Perth’s top bars as well as award winning establishments in his native Scotland, Frazer constantly entertains, educates and delights guests.”
Additional focus has also been placed on the ability to cater for private functions. A new harbour facing private space for up to 80 has been included, as well as four other options for catering for anything from a cocktail party, seated dinner or even wedding.
“We can’t wait to share the new space with our customers, old and new. We are very lucky to have a large amount of loyal regular customers who have all been excited to see our changes. The upcoming summer is looking like being a very exciting time.”
Char Char Restaurant + Bar is now open daily from 11am with food serving all the way through to 10pm.
