A GIN distillery in Fremantle’s West End is a step closer after it was approved by the council’s planning committee on Wednesday night (August 1).
The Republic of Fremantle, to be situated in the heritage-listed factory at 3 Pakenham Street, would would have a bar/lounge for up to 350 people and hold gin-making classes
Two people would run the distillery and 20-25 staff would work in the bar/lounge.
There were four objections from neighbours, with concerns including noise, anti-social behaviour and fumes.
The Fremantle Gin Company assured the council its distilling process was closed and smell-free, while fermentation would be done off-site.
