Free pizza off the menu

FREE pizza has proven too tempting to thieves, who made off with a community group’s $6000 pizza oven on Wednesday night.

The Hamilton Hill Community Group had been planning a big opening day for its new hub at 1 Starling Street on November 17, with free pizza and coffee to lure locals (Herald, November 3, 2018).

But HHCG member Christine Duckham told the Herald she was walking past the hub on Thursday morning to find thieves had taken the uninsured oven and its trailer from the back yard.

“The oven belongs to our community and we had many events around Hamilton Hill planned this year including our open day,” Ms Duckham said.

“We want it back.”

The pizza trailer’s registration number was 1TKK 315. Anyone with any leads (like a dodgy neighbour suddenly offering fresh deep crust Hawaiian) should contact Crimestoppers.

Ms Duckham says the opening will still go ahead, but visitors might have to be content with free pancakes.
