THE “long list” of entries for the Fremantle International Portrait Prize have been released after a near-record number of applications.

• WA photographer Mark Greenland’s made it to the long list of the Fremantle International Portrait Prize.
Event founder Dale Neill said there’d been a spike in mobile phone entries; the result of technological advancements that have seen them edging up towards their SLR rivals.

• Photographers who’ve been shortlisted include Jasmine Banks from WA

• Robyn MacRae from NSW with a top-notch mobile shot

• And WA’s Lidia D’Opera.
In fact, Mr Neill is a prize enforcer, checking the credentials of the photos to make sure they haven’t simply been nicked off the internet, and he reckons a lot of extra work had to go into verifying the mobile phone images because some were so close to the quality of standard photos it was hard to tell.
The short list will be exhibited at the Moores Building in October.
