A CREATIVE writing group in Willagee is desperate to find some new members so its next exercise isn’t writing its own eulogy.

The Creative Writers Group has been running for about 15 years.

Recently numbers have dropped so low at its fortnightly gatherings at the Willagee Community Centre, management has politely suggested it might be time to give up the room.

Helene Merriman recently took over running the group and says they’ll try focusing on recruiting people who are interested in writing their life story but aren’t sure how to go about it.

They use a writing system called “oh cards” which includes a card with a picture and another with words written on it. During a meeting, participants write a story about the picture using the words that have been chosen.

“We all end up having a bit of a giggle, because very rarely does anyone interpret the picture in the same way,” Ms Merriman said.

The Creative Writers Group meets at the Willagee Community Centre behind the local shops every second Thursday from 10am-noon.

For more information contact Ms Merriman on 0431 222 255 or the centre on 9364 0848.
