Feathers galore

IF you fancy watching a hilarious and slightly irreverent kids puppet show in the Easter school holidays, then Miss Lily’s Fabulous Feather Boa is just the ticket.

Based on the book by Margaret Wild and Kerry Argent, the show follows guests at Miss Lily’s Tropical Holiday House, who enjoy relaxing days and cheerful company, especially the lonely Last Potoroo. When Miss Lily takes to the stage with her fabulous feather boa, the timid Potoroo is filled with the feeling that she could do anything, if only the feather boa could be hers.

Soon a plan is set in motion with very unexpected consequences. Rambunctious families of koalas and wombats share the stage with the Potoroo and a dancing crocodile of incomparable glamour in this uplifting story that celebrates kindness, courage and a little marsupial pride. The 45 minute show is suitable for kids aged five-plus, and is on at the Spare Parts

Puppet Theatre in Fremantle from Saturday April 3 – Saturday April 17. On April 8 there is an ‘Adopt a Puppet Parents’ with families invited to a special behind-the-scenes tour after the show. Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is Australia’s flagship puppetry company, dedicated to the development and creation of the art form. Through puppetry they share stories that celebrate what it is to be human; connecting audiences across generations.

Learn to skate

With the school holidays in full swing, a day out at the ice rink is an awesome way to keep the kids entertained and having fun! Cockburn Ice Arena runs over 20 ice skating sessions each week during the school holidays – you can choose from morning, afternoon or evening sessions!

A DJ plays games and takes music requests, and the arena will often run a ‘Learn to Skate’ demonstration at the beginning of a session. These demonstrations will teach basic skating tips, like how to glide, how to stop, and how to get up safely if you fall down. Arena staff are available to help out on the ice.

Non skating parents can watch the action with a hot drink from the Frostbite Café, which overlooks the ice rink, and has plenty of seating.

So whether you bring the family, or visit with friends, you are sure to have a blast! Make sure you visit Cockburn Ice Arena and check out one of their many ice skating sessions!

For session times, visit cockburnicearena.com.au or give them a call on 9411 0300.
