THE Bon Scott memorial gate at Fremantle Cemetery had to be removed last week after being hit by a car.

The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board’s senior knowledge management officer Iris Boardman confirmed it was an accident after AC/DC fans contacted the Herald fearing some yobbo had souvenired the entrance.

“A vehicle collided with the gate causing damage to the supporting archway brickwork,” Ms Boardman said.

“The MCB cordoned off the area and removed the gate to ensure public safety.

“The gate is being securely kept until the archway repair works have been completed.”

Ms Boardman said a contractor was due to start work on the repairs this coming week and the gate should be back up just after their completed by February 24.

Because of previous vandalism and littering at Bon’s grave, visitors are warned they are being watched by CCTV, but Ms Boardman said it didn’t cover the gate itself so couldn’t provide any insight into the crash.
