THE iconic Ferris wheel at Esplanade Park in Fremantle was taken down last week, with plans to replace it with a new, shinier version in the coming months.
The original Tourist Wheel was built in 2007 and is currently operated by Sydney-based Ferris wheel company Westshell Wheels.

Westshell Wheels representative Greg Webster says the replacement wheel will be similar in size to the original but with a twist.
“The new one has a modern look, modern gondolas, all that sort of thing,” Mr Webster said.
“It will have a great lighting package on it as well.”
Mr Webster said the wheel’s deconstruction “happened pretty quick” but says the replacement should be spinning and offering great views within three months.
