THE Fremantle United Soccer Club (these days playing under the banner Fremantle City Football Club with East Fremantle Tricolore) is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year and has planned a big NPL state league match against Western Knights SC today (Saturday August 10) where it’s iconic black and white jerseys will see action for the first time since the merger in 2014. 

Founded in 1979, Fremantle United was one of the state’s most successful clubs, pulling in junior and senior titles from the ‘80s through to the noughties. 

The jerseys were a nod to the club’s Italian heritage, replicating the colours of the famous Juventus. 

FCFC president Tony Estrano urged all past United players to come down to today’s festivities, which kick off at 1.30pm before the game starts at 3pm. 

“It’s going to be a fantastic day and a great opportunity to celebrate the club’s proud history,” Mr Estrano said. 

Fremantle and Western Knights both secured promotion from the state first division last year, though after spending time in the top four this season they’ve belied their status as newbies of the Men’s NPL competition.
