VICTORIA HALL is still without a buyer after the City of Fremantle failed to attract a suitable offer.
The City received six submissions from potential buyers who outlined their plans for the historic hall.
According to a press statement from the City released this week, there were “no viable offers” amongst the six submissions.
The City says it will continue to work with the Fremantle Theatre Company, the current licensee of the Hall, to “assess the most suitable ongoing use” of the property, with any viable options for “consideration at a later date” by the council.
Critical
FTC artistic director Renato Fabretti has previously called on the City to retain the hall, saying having a viable theatre space is critical if Fremantle is to live up to its tag of the state’s arts capital.
He also noted that when the hall was last put up for sale in 2019, it had included a caveat that it had to be for community use, which was enshrined on a plaque on its front, but that seemed to have disappeared from the council’s expressions of interest documentation.
