MELVILLE council has reaffirmed Christou Design Group as the architects for its $60 million library and cultural centre project after a vote at Tuesday’s council meeting. Christou was chosen in 2018, but with the project being significantly delayed, the council decided it needed a new vote. Envisaged as a hub of arts, culture, literature and learning, the project is set to house the City’s main library, gallery and exhibition spaces, a municipal museum, outdoor civic centre as well as other council services. The facility will sit across four levels with a total floor space of 5080sqm, with space to accommodate dedicated creative learning spaces, museum collection storage, community meeting rooms, basement parking, and an anticipated annual foot traffic of 350,000 people. It will form the focal point of the Melville City Centre “high street”, situated as part of Scentre Group’s $792m redevelopment of Westfield Booragoon.

Mr Owens has been with the club 11 years, continuing long after his own children hung up their conkers, while Mr Giles is a well-known sailing instructor who’s been giving the scouts advice for eight years. Heather Allen and Mik Hopper were awarded the special services award. Fremantle Sea Scouts run weekly programs for youth aged between 5 and 18 years.
