Deadline for carriage move

THE City of Fremantle has given the owner of the Carriage Cafe in the Esplanade Park a stern word to move, three years after the iconic cafe closed.

According to the State Government Gazette, the goods left in the cafe were each valued to be worth “less than $3500” by the City of Fremantle and must be moved by owner David Furness by mid-March.

As instructed under the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act of 1970, items left in the cafe will be sold or disposed of by the City, unless Mr Furness “redelivers” them or claims they are worth more than the $3500 estimated by the City.

The Cafe, which opened in 2017, had been closed since 2022 due to the “immense” financial strain imposed by the Covid pandemic and has remained empty since.
