Stadium in the balance

DESPITE being independent, Kate Hulett has hopped on the election promise cash-splash, saying she would use a balance of power to lobby for federal funding to redevelop Wally Hagan Stadium in Hamilton Hill.

The basketball stadium development, which has been notably controversial for locals, would be “fully funded” by a federal allocation, according to Ms Hulett.

• Proposed plans for an upgraded Wally Hagan.

In a statement to the press, Ms Hulett’s campaign claimed she had “extracted more than $100 million in funding commitments” from the Labor government, despite criticising the major parties for ‘cash-splashing’ around election time to win votes.

“For many years, families and sports players have been calling for the renewal of Wally Hagan basketball centre,” Ms Hulett said.

“It is vitally important to consult fully with the community about the details of what an improved Wally Hagan looks like, but the community is clearly telling me it needs to happen.”
