THERE’S something in the water in Fremantle, and no, it’s not a shark net.
The quality of coffees in all corners of town has blown our faces off with the full force of a Blessing Of The Fleet firework.
How does this happen? Is there something chemicallogicaly remarkable going on? Do our baristas compliment the water and somehow change its molecular structure? Have the fairies pickled it?
Was it a generation of Greek and Italian migrants that parked their Toranas and picked up the tools of their ancestors to master the cultural art of coffee infusion?
Perhaps we shall never know but get out and enjoy this greatness it while it lasts.

Grumpy Sailor vs Think Or Perish
TWO wildly different operations, two exceptional brews.
After 24 coffees we can safely talk about flavour profiles and aromas without being uninvited from the chat. Grumpies is a classic cup – smooth, casual and exactly what you asked for but better than you expected. Think or Perish is something different. Something new and exciting in a world of expectation of the standard fare. It’s mellow and fruity without losing punch and while not for everyone it is mostly for everyone. Here’s looking at you Pippa ;D Think Or Perish by a nose.
Hush vs Crosta
High Street is No Man’s Land and these cafes are the trenches. Each is worth the treachery of crossing the road to the other. The barrage of regular faces is testament to the stalwart consistency of each brew. It’s a family affair at Crosta, deep Italian-Freo roots and home-baked treats, an extensive first name basis stamp system and some of the best sit-and-drink real estate in town. By contrast Hush is an eclectic assortment of talented backpackers, top-notch baristing and plenty of tucked away nooks for quiet chats. It’s hard not to get caught up at each drinking cup after cup and achieving zero productivity… but that’s what this town is all about. Of course for our competition it’s all in the barist. Hush served up some of its finest coffees to date and took out this end of town.
