SHOPPERS on their lunch break at Wesley corner got more than buskers and bubble tea on Friday — they got a crash course in why nuclear war would ruin everyone’s day.
About 40 anti-nuke campaigners gathered for the Hiroshima–Nagasaki Never Again remembrance, marking 80 years since the 1945 bombings.
Organised by Politics in the Pub Perth and co-hosted by everyone from the Independent Peaceful Australia Network to the Greens WA, the rally mixed solemn tribute with some pointed politics.

MC Elizabeth Hulm wrangled an all-women panel — Ellen Morrison, Lexi Goff, Sophie McNeill MLC, Leigh Dix and Mia Pepper — who didn’t mince words, calling nuclear deterrence “a myth” and branding nuclear-armed states “our greatest security risk” alongside climate change.
The speakers demanded the Albanese Government keep its 2022 promise to sign the treaty, and scrap both the AUKUS pact and the Force Posture Agreement with the US.
Between the speeches, placards and a fair bit of street-side nodding from passers-by, the message was clear: “Never again” isn’t just about remembering — it’s about acting before the mushroom clouds.
