THE Perth-based label for exploratory music Tone List finishes a year of programming with two shows from some of the most inspired musicians in global experimental sound.
Across two nights in December, there will be an energetic drum solo, whisper-quiet woodwind and folklike saxophone improv.
Program co-director Josten Myburgh says that “2025 has been a landmark year for Tone List, as we move towards celebrating our ten-year anniversary next year.

• Some of the artists performing at the Tone List gigs next month in Perth.
“We’re proud to be creating fun, easy-going settings for listening to world-class experimental music in Boorloo/Perth. These shows speak to everything we’re about: the music is rigorous and incredible, uncompromisingly weird, and without affiliation to any one genre or style.”
On December 1 at 7pm, a concert of two duos takes place at the café Local and Aesthetic.

Local composer Josten Myburgh will perform an improvised duo with Aviva Endean, an internationally acclaimed clarinetist, composer and interdisciplinary artist based in Melbourne.
The duo use electronics to create what they call a “mirage” of tones behind their acoustic instrumental sounds.
Emerging artist Making Out (Rosa Bassett), visiting from Canberra, will perform as a duo with young local composer Izzy French, in a much more dynamic and noisy setting using mandolin, brass and electronics.

On December 20, the celebrated drummer Will Guthrie heads up the show with one of his jaw-dropping solo performances.
Having performed with legends of Australian jazz and international experimental music, Will is near-unparalleled in his skills with rapidfire polyrhythms, influenced by his studies in Gamelan and Carnatic music.
Will is visiting from his home in France, and is joined by the Australian jazz prodigy Flora Carbo, performing a solo of songs for alto saxophone and drum machine, and the local ambient noise duo Radiation, featuring June Last and Nathan Kelly.

The show is hosted at new artist-run gallery ____.g.s on William Street in Northbridge. Tix and accessibility information at
