Gage Roads Freo is raising a glass to four big years of good times, marking the milestone with a full‑scale birthday weekender from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 January. Since opening in 2022, the venue has become a beloved community hub on the docks — and this anniversary is set to be its biggest celebration yet.

Friday: Birthday Beer Launch

Festivities begin Friday with the release of Gage Roads’ highly anticipated annual Birthday Beer: Cargo Carrier – Birthday Ale, a 4.8% ABV pale ale inspired by the tug boats that keep the port running. Bursting with juicy stone fruit, citrus and tropical hop character, and rounded out with notes of melon, rhubarb and spice, Cargo Carrier offers a refreshing bitterness and lean malt profile.

“This pale ale punches above its weight! We built Cargo Carrier to be seriously drinkable whilst still packing tonnes of hop expression, delivering layered citrus and tropical notes on a lean malt base, so it stays crisp, punchy and unmistakably sessionable.

We were able to use some CIP014—a new experimental hop— in the brew, and we’re absolutely stoked to be among the few who got our hands on it,” says Simone Clements, Head Brewer, Gage Roads Freo.

To mark the launch, Gage Roads Freo will offer $10 pints of Cargo Carrier from 5–6pm, followed by a special edition of their Hazy As Sun Sets with the Breaka Sweat DJ collective spinning from 5pm until midnight.

SMOKO Sessions All Weekend

It’s not all just about the beers. Across the weekend, guests can book into the popular SMOKO sessions, running from 11am on both Saturday and Sunday. Executive Chef Danny Sanchez will be firing up his custom made double smoker, and serving stacked platters loaded with smoked meats, saucy goodness and warm cornbread to soak up every last flavour-packed bite.

Saturday: Hottest 100 Celebrations

On Saturday 24 January, the venue will tune into both the GABS Hottest 100 Beers and the triple j Hottest 100 countdowns. Single Fin Summer Ale placed #5 last year and the team is hopeful for a podium finish this time around.

If Single Fin takes top honours, the first keg is on the house — with Fins for all. DJs will kick off from 5pm to carry the celebrations through the night.

Sunday: Full Blown Party

The festivities peak on Sunday 25 January, as the Gage crew throw a party with something for everyone; featuring live bands, games, giveaways and free entertainment for kids.

Alongside the venue’s two main bars, pop‑ups will keep the cold ones flowing, including the beloved beer‑dispensing Land Cruiser “Betty,” serving $10 pints from 3–4pm.

Expect giant beer pong competitions, the Single Fin Wheel of Pourtune, and for younger visitors: free face painting, fairy floss and pony rides.
