Why two words matter more than ever: Support Local

FREMANTLE has always been a city that adapts.

With the Fremantle Traffic Bridge works now well underway, many feared the worst. Gridlock. Grid despair. A city brought to a standstill.

The reality has been more positive. Movement is flowing better than expected. People are still finding their way in. And yet, the rhythm has still shifted.

Foot traffic patterns have changed. Familiar routes look different.

Some customers are taking new paths and some are still working out where to park, walk and wander.

For local businesses, this means trade does not always feel like business as usual.

This is especially important for our North Fremantle businesses.

That is exactly why two words matter more than ever… Support Local.

Evoto

We know the post-festive stretch can feel long. Cost of living pressures are real. Time is precious. Convenience is seductive.

But when it comes to grabbing a coffee, choosing where to dine, or deciding where to spend your dollars, where you spend matters just as much as what you spend.

This is the moment to purposefully purchase.

Local businesses are the heartbeat of Fremantle.

They are the early morning baristas and late night restaurateurs. The makers behind the windows. The retailers, creatives and service providers who quietly keep our Port City ticking.

They employ locals. They sponsor local clubs. They give to local causes. They back community events.

Invest

They invest in Fremantle not because it is easy but because they believe in this place.

Many small businesses operate on razor thin margins.

Even modest shifts in foot traffic and customer behaviour can have an outsized impact.

Supporting local is not a nice extra. It is essential.

The good news is Australians get it.

Nine out of ten Australians agree we need to support local businesses so they can survive.

More people are actively choosing local over large overseas online platforms.

The intention is there. Now it needs momentum.

Because when we choose convenience over community, money leaves Fremantle.

When we shop local, almost half of that spend stays right here, circulating through wages, suppliers, trades and services.

Small businesses are also the nation’s largest employers, creating two out of every three new jobs.

Every local purchase helps keep someone employed in our city.

So the question is simple. Do we want our hard earned dollars leaving Fremantle? Or working for Fremantle?

Let’s pause before we click “buy now”.

Let’s think about the human behind the counter. The staff member relying on shifts. The owner paying down debt. The family hoping this year is a good one.

Shopping locally is not just an economic choice. It is a human one.

It builds connection. It strengthens community. It lifts wellbeing. It keeps Fremantle feeling like Fremantle.

This city has always shown up when it matters.

We see it in the generosity of our business community with nearly three quarters of small business owners donating to charity, often to causes right here in our backyard.

Supporting local is not about doing everything.

It is about doing something.

Buy from local stores.

Grab your coffee locally.

Dine locally.

Recommend a Fremantle business to a friend.

Small choices. Big ripple effects.

Fremantle businesses are resilient, creative and deeply worth backing. With your support they will not just survive. They will thrive.

Fremantle is still open.

Still trading.

Still alive.

Shop local.

Purposefully purchase.

Fremantle is counting on you.
