Carrington’s Bar & Grill is stepping up to the crease once again, unveiling a bold new contender in this year’s AHA Best Steak Sandwich competition – and this time, history is on the line.
After back-to-back wins in 2024 and 2025 with their standout creations TNT and The Wild Thing, the team is chasing a rare hat trick, something that has never been achieved in the competition’s 18-year history. If that wasn’t enough, it also marks their fourth consecutive year as a finalist.
Their latest creation, The Hat Trick, is both a nod to their winning streak and a celebration of what’s come before.
“There’s a couple of reasons why we decided on The Hat Trick,” says owner Ash Cranenburgh.
“We have three steak sandwiches from previous years, and the team have done such a great job creating them. So The Hat Trick is a celebration of all three… we’ve pulled together what we think are the three best features.”
Built on a Turkish panini, the sandwich features a scotch fillet, crispy bacon, melted Swiss cheese, gherkin, iceberg lettuce, fresh tomato, and a new chimichurri BBQ aioli, paired with tomato relish. It’s finished with a playful jalapeño “fireball” on top — a cheeky nod to cricket — and served alongside rosemary salted chips.
The cricket theme runs throughout, with the name referencing both the sought-after hat trick and the classic Aussie soundtrack Howzat used across the venue’s social media.
Importantly, The Hat Trick isn’t a complete reinvention, but rather a refinement. It brings together the best elements of past winners, including a newly curated “hat-trick sauce” combining their most successful flavours.
Now available on the menu for just $30, Carrington’s latest creation could see them make local history — one bite at a time.
