Truffle shuffle

THIS weekend Fremantle is set to become Western Australia’s truffle capital as the Fremantle Truffle Festival returns for its biggest bash yet.

From July 10-12 the Port City will come alive with truffle-infused menus, chef experiences, market activations and gourmet events, showcasing one of the state’s most sought-after culinary treasures.

Following a sell-out Truffle Extravaganza last year, the 2026 event will see restaurants, bars and venues across the heritage heart of the west embrace all things truffle.

Participating venues will showcase special menus, limited-edition dishes, cocktails and curated experiences highlighting the versatility of locally grown black truffles.

Visitors are invited to experience Fremantle through a distinctly truffle-led lens, from truffle-inspired dumplings at Emily Taylor to truffle-infused cocktails at Anglesea and a seasonal truffle set menu at Little Creatures.

Adding to the excitement, Fremantle Markets traders will be challenged to unleash their creativity in a truffle-inspired culinary showdown, crafting exclusive dishes available only during the festival.

Visitors can embark on a flavour-filled journey through the Markets, discovering Eggspot’s indulgent Truffle Brioche Burger and a host of limited-edition creations crafted especially for the festival.

Dog lovers won’t want to miss the festival’s adorable truffle dogs, with these highly trained canine detectives taking centre stage in a lively agility showcase.

Combining speed, skill and an extraordinary sense of smell, the four-legged stars are sure to steal a few hearts as they bound, weave and sniff their way through the action.

At the heart of the festival, the large-scale Truffle House marquee will be hosted adjacent to Fremantle Markets on Henderson Street, offering tastings, cooking demonstrations, artisan products and premium truffle goods from Great Southern Truffles.

Indulgent

Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in all things truffle, with interactive experiences, prize giveaways and plenty of surprises throughout the festival weekend.

“This is no longer simply a festival at the Fremantle Markets,” says Freo Chamber of Commerce CEO Chrissie Maus.

“It has evolved into a city-wide celebration that invites visitors to explore Fremantle’s restaurants, bars, accommodation providers, retailers and unique visitor experiences.

“The economic impact extends well beyond the truffle itself.

“Events like this drive visitation, encourage overnight stays, support local jobs and create opportunities for businesses across the city to share in the benefits.

“Winter is one of the most important periods for activating our local economy and the Fremantle Truffle Festival demonstrates the power of collaboration in bringing people into the city and showcasing Fremantle at its very best.”

Little Creatures’ Mel Jacobs says the festival provides an exciting opportunity for venues to showcase their creativity and celebrate the best of the season.

“Our five-course menu has been designed to celebrate the richness and versatility of truffles,” Jacobs says.
