THE City of Bayswater has emerged as one of Western Australia’s strongest areas for small business growth, with almost 800 new businesses established over the past five years.

New figures from the Small Business Development Corporation show more than 30,000 new sole traders and small businesses were launched across the State between 2020 and 2025, placing Bayswater among WA’s 10 fastest-growing local government areas.

Acting mayor Elli Petersen-Pik said the City’s location and transport links continued to make it an attractive place to start a business.

“The City’s close proximity to Perth’s CBD and airport, combined with excellent transport connections, diverse retail and industrial precincts, quality sporting facilities and a vibrant multicultural dining scene, continues to attract new businesses to our City,” Cr Petersen-Pik said.

He said the City would continue working with local businesses to encourage innovation, increase visitation and support investment.

Cr Petersen-Pik also pointed to the completion of new and upgraded train stations at Bayswater, Morley and Noranda, along with the ongoing redevelopment of Morley Galleria Shopping Centre, as projects expected to further boost the local economy.

The City is implementing its Economic Development Strategy 2025–2035, which aims to support local businesses and strengthen activity across its town centres.
