A NEW signalised pedestrian crossing has opened on Hampton Road at Scott Street, delivering a long-sought safety upgrade for Beaconsfield Primary School families.

The crossing, operational for the start of Term 3, replaces a school crossing guard at one of the area’s busiest pedestrian routes and follows years of community lobbying over safety on Hampton Road. The intersection has featured in repeated calls for action after several crashes involving children and previous promises to improve the crossing.

Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk said she had worked with the school, the City of Fremantle and Main Roads to secure the upgrade.

“I have been working closely with Beaconsfield Primary School, the City of Fremantle and Main Roads to improve pedestrian safety on this stretch of Hampton Road,” she said.

Beaconsfield Primary School P&C president Anne Cameron said parents had pushed for a signalised crossing for years.

“Thanks to Simone’s advocacy, the government supported the full cost of delivering this upgraded crossing as part of their 2025 election commitments. Beaconsfield Primary School P&C are very appreciative of Simone’s ongoing advocacy and support,” Ms Cameron said.
