A REVAMPED playspace at Montague Hillary Park in Leeming has officially opened following a $150,000 upgrade shaped by local residents and Leeming Primary School students.

The project received $100,000 from the State Government, with more than 475 community members voting on four playground designs. The winning design received 78.5 per cent support.

The upgrade also includes colourful furniture made from disused park equipment, restored and reimagined by artist and eco-activist Stephen Genovese using ideas from local students.

City of Melville Mayor Katy Mair said the project demonstrated the value of working with the community.

“From the creative ideas of students at Leeming Primary School to the hundreds of residents who helped select the final design, this playspace genuinely belongs to the community,” she said.

She said the reused furniture also reflected the City’s commitment to sustainability.
