FASHION with a conscience will hit Perth and Fremantle this spring as Australia’s largest Circular Fashion Festival expands to include a runway at PS Art Space.

The festival runs from September to November, with events including markets, exhibitions, clothing swaps, mending sessions and two ticketed runway events.

The Remade Runway will be held at PS Art Space, while Circular After Dark will bring fashion to the WA Museum Boola Bardip on October 23.

The museum will host a live fashion runway for the first time, featuring work from 10 graduates of the Business of Circular Fashion Incubator alongside established slow-fashion designers and a pre-loved luxury designer market.

Festival co-founder Hazel Law said the event was about encouraging people to rethink their relationship with clothing.

“Our debut Circular Fashion Festival diverted over 1000kg of textiles from landfill and helped to repair 298 items via The Great Global Mend with FabPatch. We didn’t stop there because this is not just a runway, it’s a revolution.

“This year, we are also exhibiting garments and runways from our Business of Circular Fashion Incubator, which is helping to propel the Australian Circular Fashion economy forward.

“Circular After Dark will be an exciting event at WA Museum Boola Bardip, putting fashion on centre stage for the evening celebrating arts and culture.”

The festival’s other activities include Circular in the Square, featuring the work of the incubator graduates at Bankwest Hall until September 30, along with pre-loved markets, clothing swaps and mending activities.

The festival was founded by four Perth entrepreneurs who previously campaigned against fast-fashion retailer Shein, with their petition attracting more than 7000 signatures.

WA Museum engagement director Jason Fair said fashion was an important part of WA’s cultural story.

“\It reflects who we are, how our communities have changed over time, and the many ways people express their identity, creativity and values,” he said.

“At the WA Museum, we are committed to sharing the many stories that shape Western Australia, and fashion is one of them.”

Remade Runway tickets start at $25, while Circular After Dark tickets start at $50. Most other festival events are free.
