Forget Netflix. Forget “Are you still watching?” And definitely forget going to bed at a sensible hour.
Starting this long weekend, Luna on SX is turning up the heat with a season of Red Hot Double Features & Epics: a gloriously eclectic run of cult classics, modern masterpieces, sci-fi spectacles, horror favourites, anime adventures and films that demand to be seen on the big screen.
It all kicks off Friday, September 25 with a very Lynchian double bill of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and Eraserhead. Because nothing says “long weekend” quite like entering the wonderfully weird mind of David Lynch and emerging several hours later wondering what, exactly, just happened.

From there, things get seriously out of this world with Ridley Scott’s Alien and Prometheus, followed by a Studio Ghibli double feature of Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. If you’ve ever wanted to be spirited away into another universe without actually leaving Fremantle, this is your chance.
And that’s only the opening act.
Ang Lee’s breathtaking Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Michael Mann’s heavyweight crime epic Heat get the epic treatment, while anime fans can dive headfirst into Akira and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. Then things take a wonderfully strange turn with Donnie Darko paired with Nirvana the Band the Show, The Movie.
For something a little more existential, there’s La Haine and Frances Ha, followed by a Halloween- ready creature feature double of John Carpenter’s The Thing and Tremors. One involves something very unpleasant hiding in the Antarctic ice. The other involves something very unpleasant hiding underground. Either way, maybe don’t sit too close to the floor.
November brings Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, followed by Satoshi Kon’s dazzling Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers. Then Wong Kar-wai takes over with In the Mood for Love and Chungking Express, before the wonderfully brain-bending pairing of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich.
And because no season of big- screen cinema would be complete without a little Kubrick, December delivers Barry Lyndon, followed by the ultimate Cornetto pairing: Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Then comes Christmas. But not as you know it.
Luna on SX is bringing you Die Hard and Die Hard 2, followed by Love Actually and Bridget Jones’s Diary.
So grab your mates, your movie-loving other half, or that person who still insists they’ve “never seen Heat”. Luna on SX. Big films.
Bigger double bills. Red-hot cinema. And absolutely no chill.
