Got any ideas for 2029?

WHAT should Western Australia leave behind when it celebrates its bicentenary in 2029?

The Fremantle Society is continuing to seek ideas for projects that could create a lasting legacy for WA, with suggestions ranging from new artworks and monuments to ways of better showcasing the State’s Aboriginal and colonial history.

The Society has previously called for people to think beyond a single celebration and consider what could be built, created or established for future generations.

Now we want to hear your ideas.

Do you have a proposal for a project in Fremantle or elsewhere in WA that could commemorate 200 years of the Swan River Colony while recognising the much longer Aboriginal history of the State?

It could be a monument, artwork, heritage project, transport initiative, cultural attraction or something entirely different.

Send your suggestions to news@fremantleherald.com.

And while you’re thinking about WA’s history, you can also enter our competition to win a copy of Fremantle Society president John Dowson’s new book Early Albany, which has been described by former WA governor Kim Beazley as a “printed museum”.

Head to the Herald’s competitions page to enter.
