Submissions for the 2027 WA Made Film Festival are open!

No other festival celebrates Western Australian filmmaking like the WA Made Film.

Western Australia has no shortage of filmmaking talent, but making a film is only half the battle. Getting it onto the big screen, in front of an audience that genuinely wants to see it, is another challenge altogether.

That’s where the WA Made Film Festival comes in.

Now approaching its eighth year, WA Made has become a major celebration of Western Australian filmmaking, championing local stories, emerging talent and established screen practitioners. Over the years, the festival has screened more WA-made films than any other film festival in the state, providing a platform for filmmakers to share their work and connect with the people who make our screen industry tick.

For many filmmakers, seeing their work projected onto a cinema screen is a milestone worth celebrating. After months, sometimes years, of writing, planning, shooting and editing, there is something special about sitting in a cinema alongside friends, family, cast, crew and fellow filmmakers to experience the finished product with an audience.

At WA Made, that achievement deserves more than a quick screening and a polite round of applause.

The festival brings people together through filmmaker Q&As, industry events, networking opportunities and social gatherings, including opening and closing celebrations. It creates opportunities for filmmakers to meet potential collaborators, exchange ideas, learn from industry professionals and discover what others across Western Australia are creating.

Just as importantly, it gives audiences the chance to experience stories made here, by people who live and work here. From feature films and documentaries to student projects, smartphone productions, web series and television episodes, WA-made screen content comes in all shapes and sizes. Every project represents someone taking an idea and turning it into something real.

The festival is also an opportunity to recognise the diversity of talent working across our state, including those just beginning their filmmaking journeys. You don’t need a big budget, an established production company or a long list of credits to be part of the WA Made community. You simply need a film made in Western Australia and a desire to share it.

If you’ve made a short film, feature, documentary, student production or something created entirely on your smartphone, WA Made wants to hear from you.

Submissions for the 2027 WA Made Film Festival are now open, with entries closing on Tuesday, December 1, 2026.

So, if you’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to put your work in front of an audience, this is it. Submit your film, join the celebration and help showcase the stories, creativity and talent that make Western Australian filmmaking worth celebrating.
