LUSH jungle and tall palm trees surround a glistening rock pool—the ultimate Bali dream is wrapped up in a package called paradise at 35B Matheson Road, Applecross. And you can trust the cocktails.

The agent reckons as soon as you walk in you’ll be impressed but I was impressed from the moment I rocked up to the beautiful Toodyay stone-clad front, accessed down a tree-lined drive.

With a couple of huge stone gods peering through tropical vegetation, backdropped by the gold and cream stone, I was reminded of Ubud.

The front rooms of the house are the business end with a huge office/study and a formal lounge and dining areas.

The lounge opens onto a lovely covered patio and barbecue kitchen giving a hint of what’s to come in this sprawling home set on 975sqm.

Step through into the open-plan kitchen/living/dining area and it’s time to kick back, order tequila sunrises and slap on the sunscreen.

With a spacious kitchen, with wide caesarstone benches and two (yes two) pantry cupboards, there’s plenty of space to store the ingredients for any number of cocktails to enjoy while relaxing in the air conditioned living area, or step out through what looks like a wall of glass and soak up the lush Bali garden.

A thatched roof keeps the sun off and timber decking leads to a synthetically grassed area with a thatched umbrella under which I almost expected to see Ketut serving cooling beverages.

The main bedroom is on the ground floor, a spacious area with its own small courtyard garden, ensuite and walk-in-robe.

The other bedrooms are upstairs, all double with built-in-robes.

And for days when the mercury is too high to venture outdoors check out the theatre room—with sweeping floor-ceiling red-velvet curtains you’d swear you were in a real theatre. Whack on South Pacific and turn Bali-Hai to full volume.

Living in this home you’ll feel like every day is a holiday.
